We arrived safely in Farmington, IL (look it up on google maps to get an idea how remote we are). The drive was a wild adventure with rain, wind and plenty of lighting. The drive is about 6 hours east of Omaha. Along the way we had a torrnado watch announced on the radio which
means that the national weather service feels that conditions were set for a tornado to for at any moment and that shelter should ne sought out. We of course just drove on. Things seemed to be going well for us after passing through the watch until we approxied Galesburg (see google maps). The winds out of now where picked up and were blowing really hard and would end up pushing us from lane to lane. To compound the problem the rains opened up like nothing I have ever seen. The rain was pooling on the roads and the wipers because of the rain were having a difficult moving due to the high winds. The strong wind and rains lasted for about 20 minutes and then it all just stopped. The important thing was we arrived here safely.
The torrnado that hit western Omaha last night around 2:30 am was catagorized by the national weather service as having winds from 110 to 134 miles per hour. We drove around the area effected and damaged appeared light. We noticed one business with the roof removed, a bill
board destroyed and several trees down. Know injuries were reported so really much a do about nothing.
Our drive back to Cali should be less adventurous as the western part of the state and Wyoming don't seem to have such weather events.
