Saturday Ride - Dcember 6, 2008

My first long solo ride took place yesterday. I took a similar route to the 5 burough tour of the SCV that my brother and father took back at the end of November. This time I went a little further. The ride with my family was cut short as I was spent so we cut across Lyons Avenue and caught up with this trail at the 5 in Stevenson Ranch.

So the route is as follows:
--> Our house past Central Park towards Plum Canyon
--> Plum Canyon represents the first major climb of the day, leaving Saugus and heading to Canyon Country.
--> Plum Canyon turns to Whites Canyon which we follow up and over the wash till we reach Via Princessa.
--> The ride becomes serious as we turn south on Sierra Highway and make a couple of climbs as we follow the 14.
--> In yesterday's ride I kept on past San Fernando Dr. and up and over the Newhall Pass on the 14 side. This was a gruelling 2 mile climb. (see google street view below)
--> Sierra Highway meets up with the Old Road just under the 14 which forces you to climb the I-5 side of the Newhall pass. With the canyon winds picking up this could have been the toughest stretch of the ride.
--> The Old Road continues to the Industrial Center and then the home stretch.

I did not mark my start time but I am guessing it was just under 2 and a quarter hours. Google Maps has this ride as a 31 mile ride but I think it was just over that mark.

Welcome to the Reimers Family Blog

Hello Reader,

I am amazed at the huge number of people who actually come in (and return) to this site. There are hits from all over the United States and even some people viewing from outside the country.

It is a difficult job to update with any regularity so please send me a note or comment under each post and let me know you are reading!
